Nitrous Oxide Sedation
Nitrous Oxide is pleasant smelling inhalable gas that can reduce anxiety, reduce the awareness of discomfort, relax and elevate the mood of patients during during dental treatment. It is able to dull all sensations and some people report it creates a feeling similar to when they first wake up, “aware of the world around them but not concerned about it”.
Nitrous Oxide is delivered through a mask with Oxygen. The effects of Nitrous Oxide can be achieved within a few minutes and-unlike pills and injectable medicines reversed within seconds (simply by halting the breathable flow and replacing it with oxygen). The ideal state of relaxation for some people can be achieved by reducing or increasing the percentage of Nitrous Oxide. Thus the effect can be modified to fit the mood of the patient and the specific dental procedure.
